local landscapes

Most of Rubin's paintings following his settling in Palestine in 1923 were depictions of the local landscapes. His early paintings of the sights of Eretz Yisrael reflect his craving to feel instantly rooted, and with time became the most sought after works in his entire ouvre. He even admitted that he could only paint landscapes in his new homeland, and when traveling abroad he refrained from painting landscapes (with few exceptions), and limited himself to mostly portraiture and still-lives.
